To get the measurements for the armature I put my sketch through Rhino and scaled it to the exact size that I wanted, I then printed it to scale and took measurements based on what I wanted the form to be.
I then used those measurements to block out an armature that would be strong enough to hold the amount of clay needed to make this piece using industrial scraps that I found around my house.
I then started carving into the form to map out the eyes, nose and chin area. Initially, I focused on just carving away at the form until I was happy with the direction that he was going in.
